Everyone always says cornish X won't free range. I just wanted to say that mine last year free ranged wonderfully!! We have an acre, and the broilers ranged around the half acre in the back just like the layers did. They stayed in the barn until they were about 3/4 weeks, then I started letting them free range during the day. I processed them at around 10 weeks due to me feeding them a too-low protein feed for a few weeks (trying to save money). The weights ranged from 3 lbs to 6 lbs.

There are 2 videos on this blog post , taken when the broilers were 8.5 weeks old. If you scroll down you can see the videos.

I think that there are several here who free range their CX. i don't, as there are too many stray dogs and coyotes around and I wouldn't get any work done other than watching out for them. i also want to process before memorial day, so am carefully watching their feed. i have set up a small run for my 3 week old ones, but as we are having a cold spell, not letting them out yet. i'll be shooing them out of the coop on nice days to get some sun and fresh air .
