"Free ranging" dllemna

We have no coverage in our yard...nowhere for them to run for cover especially if they are out in the middle. It is just one big open grassy backyard with trees only on the edge that don't provide coverage from the hawks. In fact, the hawks sit in those trees and watch our chickens. Letting our chickens out to roam free is a death sentence for them and as much as I would love to have them out, I am not about to watch them get picked off one by one.
My husband and I are going to move the coop/run to fresh grass and have the girls start going out in their daycare pen again. That is the best I can offer them.
