Free ranging Geese

I have some geese penned up in runs if I let them free range so they can enjoy the grasses growing on the property will they run away or fly away? I have 10 acres but some of the perimeter of the property is not fenced, the geese’s home pen is near the center of the property but I’m worried they will try to leave. Do they have a good homing instinct? I have Toulouse and pomeranian geese right now they’re fairly large and heavy.

They have no reason to run away.
If you're still not convinced, let only one out at a time. The one out will not wander far from the other one.

The geese won't go far if they have plenty of grass nearby. They seem to be somewhat territorial. As long as their coop isn't right next to the property boundary, you should be fine.

Most times they'll put themselves up at night, or at least congregate near their coop. You'll still need to close them up, but they generally return home at sundown.

I had some wander a few times, one time they wandered so far they got lost and it took awhile to find them.
They haven’t done that since though, and it’s been several years so I guess they learned their lesson.

10 acres is nice. I'm on 3.4 and mine call it home. Occasionally I have to herd them back in from the road (rarely), but they typically know to stay away from it with the massive farming mechs that roll on by every so often.
