What is the best turkey to free range? Is it better to mix up breeds or keep it all to one breed?

That's a very open ended question for the fact no one knows what conditions you live under what space you have were in the world you live what predators you have in the area that would have to be considered.
To me it does not make a difference what breed it is they all will free range some are better foragers.
No matter what breed it is for me I lock my Red Bourbons up in there coop each night I have invested way to much in them time and money to feed a stray dog or any wild predator.to get a free meal.

It doesn't matter. All the heritage turkeys will eat natural foods if you let them. Frank does make good point about the predators. I do not coop mine up at night, but there range is fenced with a six foot fence with an apron to prevent digging and two strands of hot electric fence. You don't want a (your most commen predator here) to get a turkey that you've invested $50 in.
