I need to re-home my SLW hen. She is a year old this month, and a decent layer. The picture is from last year when she injured her beak - it has since grown back perfectly.
A couple of months ago, she started picking/eating the fluff from my EE's backside. I have tried many different solutions to stop her, none of which worked. Not even Pinless Peepers stopped her! She's picked my EE's backside bare at least 4 times now. I am worried she will become more abusive, and don't want to have to keep her caged up constantly when I'm not around.
I want her to go to someone local (I am in south central TX, near Austin), and honestly, if someone wants to take her and make her into dinner, that is fine with me. I just can't bear to do it myself.
Below is some more about her, if you are interested.
Like I said, she is 1 year old. She is a voracious eater, and I think may be a bit on the heavy side, though not obese. She lays size small brown eggs almost every day. She loves to be out in the yard where she can run from one place to the next and do what she wants. She doesn't cackle much. She can be REALLY loud when she wants to though, especially if she's cooped up while the others are out!
As far as health goes, she seems pretty healthy. She went through a very mild case of fowl pox at around 4 months of age. She's had blood in her stool 2 times (widely separated by months, one stool each time) but hasn't shown any ill effects. She has NOT been wormed at all. She was raised on Purina chick starter until she began laying, then switched to Dumor laying crumbles, plus various treats, and a bit of scratch once a day.
I can't think of anything else to add. Feel free to ask, if you have any questions.
I will post pics of our yard and their house/run if anyone wants to see their living conditions.
