Looking at a huge pile of carrot peels we generated making a roast for dinner, I got to thinking...anyone freeze food scraps for their chickens?

Our chicks won't even arrive until later this week, but even when they're full grown, it was more food scraps than I could see them eating in a day or two. I'm sure we'll always generate some scraps, but I can see days with less that we could supplement from the freezer.

Anyone freeze scraps? Any work better than others? What type of container (ziploc bag? tupperware?).

I live in a really hot area with most summer days 100+ and 70+ humidity so I always have sliced frozen watermelon in the freezer for mine. It is a great way to cool them down and I throw it out frozen solid. The chickens love it. I just wrap with saran wrap, even if it does get freezer burnt they don't care.

I don't freeze scraps specifically for the birds, but I freeze pieces and peels and ends of veggies for stock. I'd take those peels and stick them in a gallon ziplock baggie, they'll stay good for years. I would then use them for stock, then give them to the birds, but you can skip the stock part if you're so inclined.
