Fresh Pine Chips ok for bedding?

We found a source for free fresh pine chips (not shavings its like the whole tree, sent through a chipper) and we are going to be using it for many things but is it safe for bedding in our coop? It's fresh so its very piney smelling but our coop is also very well ventilated.

aromatic woods like eastern red cedar aren't.
