Ok, i have an araucana hen who is broody and is sitting in her nest. One of my hens is sitting next to her and keeps doing so (not laying an egg). Her face is pale and she isnt looking that well (standing alone, still, and weird poos). I was wondering if she is broody or if anybody has experienced this before? She is an ex-batt so they're breed not to go broody!

Has anyone had this before and what should i do with her?

If the hen is lieng down next to her she could be going broody but if she is standing then there might be something wrong with her. I have had 3 ex batts go broody, so it defintley is possible.

Is she puffed up too? The pose is called statue standing.

She could have

Egg Bound
round worms
coccidiosis
mites or lice
internal laying
vent gleet
reproductive cancer

With the weird poos, worms or coccidiosis could be the cause. A vet(it the same test they do for dogs) can test the poo. I costs about $10.00 here and you do not have to bring the chicken in.

I hope she gets better soon!

She is lying down next to her (almost on top of her!) , but has been standing up today looking a bit off color, . Have you found them being good sitters and mothers or not?
Thanks! :)

I have heard a lot of people say they are good mothers :)

Being off color often happens during a molt. I have limited experience with hens (this is year #2 for us now) but the few hens that have gone broody on us also went through a molt around the same time, they all looked pretty rough for a good month or two, very pale comb/wattles and thin from trying to hatch the fake eggs

. The strange poo is the only thing that I didn't notice in which case there very well could be something else going on.
