Hi, I am pretty new to BYC and so far I love it. I have many different chickens which include Japenese Bantams, Americauna, Australorp, Golden Comets, RIR, Barred Rock, and Orphington. I was just wondering what kind of chickens y'all have that are friendly. My Americauna, Barred Rocks, and Rhode Island Reds aren't very friendly( meaning they holler and flap when you pick them up) but 1 of my Comets, Lulu Bell I named her, absolutely loves people. She loves to held, rubbed, fed pasta:D. My Australorp Bantam, Sky, is also very friendly along with one of my Japenese Bantams, Grace.

Please tell me what chickens y'all have that are friendly, because I am interested in getting more.

a lot depends on how they were raised. Hatcheries consider them stock to sell and box up. Breeders and folks raising them at home can give them lots of individual attention and socialization from an early age. Cochins, Buff Orps, Silkies, are docile breeds.

I have a lot of different breeds! But out of all of mine I think the most friendly ones are my buff Orpington, my black Australop, and my lavender Cochins (and I would really recommend getting those they are so friendly) I wrote a review on them too if you'd like to take a peek. :) Another breed that are super friendly that I don't have are silkies. They are the most sweetest and friendliest chicken breed. I just want to squeeze them because of how friendly and fluffy they are! ;)

I have 4 Rhode island reds hens the other tow died. My Rhode island reds are kind of friendly they get nervous when i pick them up but after a few minutes they don't mine being held. If i'm sitting on the ground watching them 2 or 3 will come over and carefully look me over its funny. They are really stubborn birds when i walk in the coop they will stand there ground even when i shove them with my boot. There definitely not scared of me that's for sure. One of them will sprint at me and start pecking my hands when i try to pick up the others, That one is picked on a lot so she's not very nice. If i had to rate their personality 1-100% i'd give them a 75.

@CherriesBrood Yeah, I find Australorps to be a really friendly chicken breed. And I also really want the lavender Cochins

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I've had dozens of breeds over that past 50 years and based on my personal experience the friendliest breeds that I've had have been Australorps, Orpingtons, Cochins, Brahmas, Silkies, and Sussex. My children have made lap pets of all of these breeds. Although they are hybrids and not actually a breed, my Black Sex Links (Black Stars) have been very friendly as well. I concur with your Rhode Island Red experience; some of my RIRs have been quite aggressive. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Whatever breeds you decide to get, good luck with your flock.

Welcome to BYC!

In our mixed flock, the friendliest are the Red Sex Links and the Speckled Sussex. I think "friendliest" depends a lot on how much you interact with your birds (starting from when they are very small). A sense of trust has to be built up for a chicken to not mind being picked up and held. And of course, treats are always good for making friends, lol.

Good luck with your flock, nice to have you here!

I had 6 Barred Rocks.. They were very friendly. They would follow me around the yard, talking to me all the way. Laid nice large brown eggs, too. I really enjoyed them.
