I have had my chickens for about a week and a half and of the 4, 2 are doing exactly what I would expect them to. The other 2 though have got me puzzled. One is a cuckoo maran, 13 weeks and the other is a frizzle who's about 10 months. Since I've brought them home, the older one has taken to mothering the younger one and she has not layed any eggs. They are also both sleeping on the floor rather than the roost. I'm pretty sure the frizzle is at an age where she should be laying because the person I bought them from was able to tell me what color the eggs were. Is there anyway I can break this mothering/broodiness behavior. I don't really have somewhere to separate them. And she isn't trying to sit on the eggs that the other 2 are laying. I'm stumped. I would really like to get some eggs from her.

Frizzles tend to be sporadic layers at best - the change of environment has put her off somewhat also.

Thank you for the welcome, we have really enjoyed our hens so far. I saw on the breed profile that the frizzle was supposed to be a medium layer, we've had her since the 15th if April and haven't gotten a single egg. Any thoughts? Should I try and separate her from the cuckoo maran for a few days?
