Right now I have 4 eggs ready to hatch any day now! My hens have been sitting on them for about 14-15 days
Okay so here's my story:
1. I was gone on a trip for a week, came back and 4 eggs had accumulated in my serama coop, and both my hens were laying on them. Hoping they were fertile I let them be. Now I know those ones werent fertle because my rooster is not mounting my hens.
2. My serama hen in a different coop with a polish hen and my blue frizzle rooster, and a silkie pullet. My hen(golden laced, she and the rooster are in my pics, wont miss them all my chickens look distinctly different), she started laying just then, and since I'd seen the rooster mount her a couple times I decided to give it a shot. Her first 4 eggs went under those broody hens and for sure they are the ones ready to hatch. So she laid all fertile eggs!
3. I candled them for the first time today, and they look almost ready to hatch! I compared one of the other serama eggs which are not fertile. The non fertile ones, the light goes right through and you can tell theres nothing in ther. The fertile ones there are veins running through, an air sac on one end, and last of all................LITTLE BABY CHICKIES!!!!! I can see little shapes moving around, and one of them I could see a claw an its toes and it was kicking and moving around! The other ones were too but that one is particularly active!!
4. Hopefully I can post pics I took of them but the formatting is weird on my iPad 3 so I will post on my computer later
My questions/opinions I'm asking of you guys is.....:
1. What do you think they will look like? (Blue Frizzle Polish x Golden Laced Serama)
2. I have 4 more eggs from my serama, think theres a way when the chicks hatch that I could take one hen and move her somewhere else with them, and then slip the eggs under the other one? Would she give up? I wouldnt be cruel to her right to lay on eggs for so long?
3. the egg that moves a lot it looks like there is more room in the egg than for the other 3 eggs, they are all the same size egg but I'm wondering if the other 3 got polish genetics and are a little bigger? I guess ill know when they hatch!
