Frizzle roosters - frizzle versus smooth gender specific offspring

Hi there, Can anyone out there who is a genetics expert tell me if the feathering type associated with a frizzle roosters offspring could be also linked to gender? My frizzle rooster so far throws only frizzle girls and straight feathered boys. He has bred with straight feathered hens only. Should I expect this forever or is it coincidence so far? Be great if any other frizzle breeders have had similar experiences to share. Thanks, Fiona

How many have you hatched? This is just a coincidence. Statistically, half of a frizzle to smooth pairing will be frizzle, regardless of gender, but until you've hatched many many chicks, the numbers may not add up.

Thanks so much - good to know - yes, suspect I haven't hatched enough for anything statistically significant. So far from 3 hatches with this combo, resulting in 3 frizzle girls and 2 roos (i've been introducing other genetics and types into the flock so to date have used my broodies to hatch my own eggs pretty sparingly. This time round I'm going with 100% from my rooster and hens - so will see what I get.

If running a mixed flock, I wouldn't tend to keep both frizzle hens and Cockerels together. One copy of the frizzle gene results in normal frizzle birds, whilst two (one from each parent) results in a sickly "frazzle" with brittle feathers. There's a 1 in 4 chance of frazzle from a frizz/frizz pairing.

Thanks - yes - I never breed from a frizzle hen - only from my smooth feathered hens - so hopefully won't get a frazzle :) So far so good on that front :)
