I just wanted to know if Frizzles are good mothers to chicks. Do they go broody often?

Frizzle is just a term for a genetic trait that causes the feather to curl outwards instead of toward the body like a normal feathered bird. You can breed the frizzle gene into any breed of bird and I have seen a number of different breeds with frizzle feathers. The broodiness would be dependent on what breed of frizzle you got. Frizzled cochins are pretty common and are very broody. Other breeds of frizzles like Polish may not be.

You need to breed a frizzled bird to a non frizzled bird to get a frizzle. The babies of those parents will have 50/50 chance at being frizzled as well. You can not breed a frizzled bird to a frizzled bird -- the result will be babies with terrible feathers that all fall out.

Don't worry. It gets a little confusing. Especially when you start dealing with genetics. Do you want to breed frizzles or do you just want a frizzle to hatch eggs for you?

I love keeping chickens and I want some chicks to be hatched, there are frizzle hens for sale near where I live.
