I am not new to chickens and yet these are the first I've owned. I was raised on a farm and there were always chickens underfoot, but didn't pay them much attention. Pop
later raised fryers for a commercial group, had over 10,000 or so of them, and this was most of my chores when I was a teenager.
Now, over the protest of my wife who has no love for birds due to a few unhappy incidences as a child, I have built a coop and installed five Buff Orpington chicks.
While researching coop and run construction ideas, I came across the BYC forum. I've belonged to a few forums in the past, but I believe this one to be not only the
largest, but also the best of them I've seen.
I have been retired since 2003, and since I don't do anything else (but chickens), I get to say I am a musician. I play with a large symphonic group here in our state capitol.
I was a musician in the U.S. Navy in the early 1960's, so I am just picking up old habits.
I now live here on the farm where I grew up. I have one wife, one Havanese named Jake, who is our surrogate son, one rescue dog, the five BO's, 40+ head of cattle, uncountable
fish, frogs and turtles and 125 acres of more upkeep than I can handle.
