I sell my extra eggs out in the front yard with a small fridge in a trailer, It turned cold and im wondering if eggs will freeze out there or if the insulation of the fridge will keep that from happening. I like my sales setup because I takes care of itself and Im not much of a people person. Ive never had a issue with eggs not being paid for- in fact one time someone left me a $5 tip! Anyways, should I stop with the outdoor fridge for the winter? Egg production has really dropped off anyways, only get 4-6 now vs the 8-10 I was getting a month ago. I understand why, thats not a issue.

It's a good question. I would like to think that the insulation would hold but IDK. You could test it by leaving some overnight and see. You could ask customers to leave orders for next day pickup. But production will likely continue to drop and depending on how many eggs you use personally, at some point you'll end up pulling it from service until spring. Good luck and please update on how it goes.

It should also depend on your weather. A refrigerator can keep things cold for a couple days, if the door is left shut. Roughly, that means it will keep something warm for a few days. If your temps are continuously below freezing for a week straight, the eggs may not stay unfrozen.

You might try a couple of gallons of hot water in the fridge with the eggs. How many depends on things like the size of the fridge, how often the door is opened, the temperatures, and how often you replace the jugs and the eggs.

Ive had a bottle of drinking water in the door just to keep tabs in weather it freezes or not. It hasnt but the thermometer above the bottle has read below 32 for the past few days. I checked the eggs a while ago and found one shell had cracked so Im pulling the plug , pulling the trailer behind the house and will set up again about late march or so. With no more eggs than Im getting I can sell what little surplus I don’t personally use to co-workers or give to my parents. Its ironic how the biggest demand for eggs locally (holiday baking season) is the slow time production wise. Last weekend I had a woman stop and want 11 dozen, I had 2. they sold 30 min later.
