Hi everyone! I have a RIR hen that just turned 1. This winter I noticed a weird grey brown thing on her comb. Not sure if this is frost bite or something else. Any suggestions on what this is or what to do? Thanks!!

P.S. It isnt on the other side.

It looks like frost bite to me but not that bad. Our leghorn was frost bit last winter and her spot was completely black. It ended up healing just fine. Im sure there is a salve you could use but I’m sure it will heal on its own after a few weeks. Good luck.

No! Do not put salve or ointment on it, do not massage it, don't touch it. You'll only cause her pain and damage it more. Please just leave it alone, nature will take care of it.

If it is bad enough, it will fall off. Yours does not look bad at all. I think it should heal just fine. I misspoke about ointment or salve. What big blue he said is right do not apply anything to it. It will heal on its own.
