I know this is an issue. I live in northern Wisconsin. Day temp is 12-15 degrees the last few days. My flock has been fine till today. Black coloration noted on the top of a couple combs. I did put salve on the comb and waddle this morning. I keep the coop 35 degrees at night when the door is closed. I use a black reptile light bulb for heat at night. Should I not be heating the coop or just leave the door open to increase ventilation. I have a window on the left side of the coop but I have read chickens don't like drafts and it would be just about perch height.
Any help is appreciated...

Coop temp 40's, humidity 33%. I have been changing out the litter though. My thermometer is toward the peak of the coop. I only close the door at night. Occasionally find egg cracked open the last few mornings.
Thanks for the articles.
