I have a 6month old bantam roo who has one of the points on his comb black (guessing frostbite). I know u have other posts on it but i have questions.
(1) does it hurt him? he seems fine.
(2) what should i do? it's warm in the coop (heat lamp ect), he's the only one with it.
(3) Can i prevent it?
Oh, and if you say ointment, what kind?
Thanks for your time.

1. no, probably doesn't even notice it
2. for 1 point on a comb nothing, nothing you can do except prevent it from happening again.
3. you can smear some petroleum jelly on the combs it will help trap heat in. will need to be reapplied every other day or so and will also collect sawdust, dirt, bugs and other nasties.

You have a heat lamp in the coop and he still has frost bite? What are the temps in and out? Is it possible he is getting used to warm, so when he gets up and goes out, he isn't acclimated and thus get's bittern by the cold? Mine all sleep outside in the 30's right now.
