I had to laugh this morning when one of my young hens flew over the fence like she owned the place. She had been getting out in the exact same place for about a week. I started getting suspicious after awhile, so I decided to watch her and find out where she was going. I followed her to the grain trailer that we have parked in our yard and underneath it she had a secret nest hidden well in the weeds with a clutch of seven eggs. She let me know when I was close enough to the nest. I pondered on what to do, to move her, or to let her stay. After thinking about it I just decided to let her lay where she wants because I could tell she wasn't going to like being (relocated). I guess you could say I learned a few things today 1. That hens are stubborn and not as dumb as people make them out to be. 2. Their clutching instincts are stronger then I thought. 3. Chickens have personality, this hen has a feisty one. Well, you learn something new everyday in the chicken business!
