I live in SW Florida. It is warm here, so the other day, we put all the chicks and ducklings in the coop/ run. Anyway, today was the first time they experienced rain. The ducklings ran around quacking...drinking the water that was overflowing from the drinking containers. The chickens on the other hand...stood in the rain. They had no clue to go in the coop. The door is always left opened. They could have gone in anytime. Half of the run is also covered with a roof. They still stood in the rain...yelling very loudly...looking towards our house. Like I was gonna come out and save them from the falling sky. I could understand their cries..."the sky is falling, the sky is falling!" After the rain stopped, I went out to check on them. I gave them fresh water and opened the feeder. The food was wet. So I figured the little vultures would think I was adding new food to it. They did, and gulped it down. Just then...the rain came back. I ran in the coop. they stood outside yelling for me. LOL! I finally went out and shooed them inside.
Will they ever learn? I know they are young yet, but I live where it rains every single day for 9 months.
