I love roos. They can be soooo funny. My pullets are 16 -17 weeks old with only one girl laying so far. My roo is getting impatient for his girls to grow up, I guess. Today he grabbed a pullet but she managed to escape, leaving him with just one feather in his beak. He dropped the feather to the ground and began to do the rooster dance around it. He must have circled around that single feather a dozen times or more with one wing dragging, as they do. I've never seen a roo dance for a feather before. It was soo funny. I just roared with laughter!

My big ole Cuckoo Maran roo is low man on the totem pole in our flock. The bantam Cochin roos are all over him, with the exception of Elvis, my newest bantam Cochin roo. Well, none of the ladies want anything to do with Mystery my big Maran boy, so yesterday he decided to mount my white Cochin Elvis!

In horror Elvis screamed but couldn't escape from under Mystery, so he waited for me to come rescue him. I shooed Mystery away, but poor Elvis looked so disgusted, like his ego had been wounded. Poor Mystery. The hormones are a ragin', but the ladies, they just aren't interested. For his sake I sure hope someone decides they like him. I think that at this point he would even be happy with Goldie my partially blind and not fully feathered GLW girl. I've watched my boys fight for dominance before, and this was NOT a dominance fight, this was an attempt at mating. A VERY big failure. Poor Elvis...
