Galvanized Troughs for ducks?

Does anyone know if I'm able to use a big galvanized water trough for my ducks swimming pool? Some people have said that it's too dangerous due to some metals but I wasnt sure.

This is a good starting read on galvanization.

Personally? I choose not to risk it. Rubber tubs are often cheaper & just as widely available, or you can repurpose a swimming pool or fish pond liner.

I bought a galvanized bowl together with my ducklings last year and used it as a food dish for a while. Since it started to rust i'm no longer using it. As @bluemerle wrote, most of the time the plastic or rubber stuff is often cheaper and will not corrode. Agreed, some of that rubber material smells like tires, but my duckies never cared.

If you already have the trough you could consider lining it with a pool or pond liner.
