Any idea what this thing is?

I'd say he is probably a game cross. Looks like a possible rose comb so that would mean he is either "part" spanish gamefowl or is probably american crossed with a non-gamefowl rose combed breed. As for color, most people due to slate legs and BBred color would just call him a Hatch (if he is/was pure), most others are wheaten based and usually have yellow, or white legs.

Well by that information, i'll say he could be pure Spanish. I don't know spanish gamefowl, though i am learning. The brood stock looks a little large to be pure ones though, possibly an out-cross to add in vigor, a lot of spanish lines are very inbred because they've never crossed with other birds and such as many of the breeds we have, have been.

A few people i know are breeding lines over a hundred years old without new blood added, making them come around 3 and a half pounds in full grown cocks and pretty fragile in disease resistance. Not saying that all of them are like that, just the ones i know of. Most spanish fowl won't get over about 4-4.5 pounds though from what little i've heard. Personally i like the little stag more than the parents
