gamebird feed?

Tractor supply has small bags of manna pro gamebird feed and show conditioning feed. Can I feed gamebird feed to silkie bantam chickens? Do I feed manna pro game bird feed as a whole or to I add it as a supplement? Thanks!

my dads friend who raises and breeds all kinds of birds pheasant, turkey, guinea, quail, and banty chickens says he will only use gamebird starter on any bird no matter what kind he says it is way better for them for medicated chickenstarter becouse it has protein and stuff and no medications which can sometimes be harmfull to the chicks (i still use the chickfeed cuz its cheaper and i usually hatch with broody hens in which case the babys just get layermesh and scratch)

Joe, I never used Manna Pro products, but check the bag and see what the protein level is. I`ve used Purina Gamebird Blend for years and with excellent results. The Purina stuff has been relabeled as Purina Gamebird Chow. It has 14% protein, which for my gamefowl equates to shiney feathers, bright red faces, and a big strong breast with no fat on the bird. Very good feed. If Manna Pro is about 14-16% protein and not too many fillers, it should be fine, but read the label...........Pop

Im confused about gamebird feed and flock raiser feed. I looked on the purina website and they dont even have gamebird feed listed. Is it just flock raiser? Do you have a link or know a website that has purina gamebird feed? Can chickens have 14% protein?​

Joe, 14% depends on what grains make up the 14%. Gamebird blend has been the best feed I ever used for my application and probably would be for yours. If you were talking broilers, or layers, maybe not. I am not concerned with how many eggs I get and I don`t want fat gamefowl. My gamefowl are orientals and birds from that region were not developed or maintained on high amounts of protein, so it works fine for my fowl. I used to breed quite a few Spanish Games and it worked great for them also. I`m sure your Silkies are not for egg production or human consumption, so it the qualities I mentioned are what you like, I recommend Purina Gamebird Blend. I sent purina an email to get the scoop on the product. I suggest you do the same for the brand you are considering. When we get the answers we seek we`ll compare notes.........Pop

You can go to www.purinamills.com where they have all their products listed & click on gamebird feed. They have it separate from chicken feed. I think the main thing with purina gamebird feed is that it contains animal protein which many people like for their chickens. Flockraiser is 20% protein, but all plant derived, so most likely higher in soy then gamebird. I used Purina Flight Conditioner for awhile & really liked it. It is 19% protein, so very similar to FR with the addition of animal protein. They also have a Gamebird Layena that is 20% protein, but my feed store did not regularly stock it. Hope this helps.

Thanks Cindy. I already looked at that stuff and didn`t find Gamebird Blend or Gamebird Chow. As I mentioned, I used Blend at 14% for a long time(about 10 years) and found it excellent. The Contact page says they will respond within 2 days. We`ll see..........Pop

I have used it all. I use a starter for the chicks. Though I am going to switch to the gamebird startena for the chicks as it is higher protein and Cheaper, yes Cheaper, than the startena that I use. I don't use Purina Gamebird as it is hard to get here cause I only use a few 100#'s a month and they need to order 10 50# bags at a time. Anyway, the other GB startena is 28% Protein, so that's fine.

I have used the Manna pro when I ordered my Gamebird starter and the feed store forgot to order it. Its fine for Gamebirds or chicks, but remember it is not medicated and it isn't as high in protein. I give my chicks 1Tbsp ACV per gallon of water as a preventative anyway.

I'm getting tired of buying a lot of different feeds so next time I buy, probably tomorrow or next day, I'm getting 100# of Purina Flock Raiser for the hens and the ducks and the teens. I'll put the chicks on gamebird startena and continue with same for my quail chicks and then gamebird breeder for my quail breeders. I don't know if I'll stay with the Flock raiser, but I'll try it for more than 1 bag (1 week) this time.

Then all the adults have Oyster Shell free choice mixed with dried crushed egg shells. Everyone gets some grit in their dust baths or separate dishes. And everyone gets abit of scratch that I mix up for the Hens, Teens and Ducks and grind up for the chicks after they are 4 weeks old.

I need to down size. Hope this helps you though.

I feed all my chicks and my adults the same, Manna Pro Gamebird/Showbird 30% crumbles.Try it, you should see a big difference in your chickens. Being in South FL, we usually lose a few each summer due to it being so hot (90-100 degrees and 90% humidity most days); this year, I didn't lose any and all my hens were laying big brown eggs, too! I just add some oyster shell to feeders and let them eat what they need of that so they have the extra calcium. I love the Manna Pro brand and am sad now b/c when I went to buy feed today I learned the feed store no longer carries it! I guess I have to switch to Purina's 30% feed now.
