I have a bonded pair of 6 year old geese and now during the hottest part of summer my female is finally setting. On an empty nest but am getting a few hatchling from the hatchery and sm wondering if I need to keep her mate fenced off from the nest when the babies come. He is a really good boy but does 'peck" at things sometimes. I have had them both since they were day Olds and both come when there name is called. You get the idea. I don't want to put the babies at risk so any advise would be greatly appreciated. Obviously we've never done this before

You will have to just wait and see. I've had ganders help and I've had them be aggressive. It all depends if he thinks they are his or not. I had no troubles adding a similar breed of goslings, but did have troubles adding knobbed goslings to those without the knob.

Probably best to pen her and see how he reacts through the fence, than see how he does with them after a few days.

So grateful for your reply! Thank you! Ducklings are coming not goslings so will definitely be penning her. He's been waiting by her nest for most of the day and then goes out with his "flock" to graze and bug hunt but checks on her often. I'm hopeful!

Just thought you would like to know.

Seems good!
