gander taking care of 8 week old Pekin ducks

Hi Has anyone every seen this happen? We have a gander (embden cross) that is watching over 4 Pekin ducks. We put the ducks in the Kennel under a heat lamp about two weeks ago . When Spot the gander heard them he came up to the door and hissed and fussed. He stayed right by the kennel and would not even go off with the other geese. Now that we have let the ducks out he stays with them and herds them around. We think this is strange and really funny. He is so funny to watch. He is very protective of these 4 ducks....
