I completed a 5 day treatment for my hen with gape worms 5 days ago. I suspected but wasn't sure until today, when cleaning the coop I found gape worms in the droppings. Do I need to repeat the treatment? She is still showing signs (although better) of having them or will they all eventually die and pass? Anyone have any experience with treatment?

Thanks for any help.

What symptoms was she showing? Did you get her droppings checked for worms with a fecal float? Usually, round worms are the easiest worms to see in droppings. Most others are too small to see without a microscope easily. What wormer did you use, and how much for your chicken?
Gapeworm causes severe respiratory distress, and is fairly rare. Most chickens with gapeworm are in so much distress they cannot eat or drink.

I did extensive research, she was having difficulty breathing, reaching her neck up and out to breath, wasn't eating and was lethargic. I did not get her droppings checked. I treated her with Safeguard (.23ml/lb) for five consecutive days. She seems to be getting better, breathing easier, much more alert and eating and drinking a lot! Today, five days after treatment, in the droppings I saw two confirmed gape worms, no question. I am wondering if they will continue to die or if I should treat her again since I have confirmation they are gape worms.

Please post a photo showing gapeworm in feces. Thanks.
