Gape worms

If you are using the proper medications, you should see improvements in a few days. Safeguard is a great treatment for gape worms. However, there is a virus out there that attacks the larynx that mimics gape worms...Laryngotracheitis...a viral infection in the respiratory tract. It causes the bird to gasp for air. I am not sure if there is a treatment for this, however there are vacines for it.

Good luck with your bird.

Much 'gaping' has nothing whatsoever to do with gapeworms. I would guess that the majority of gapeworm cases are really respiratory infections.

I thought he had a respiratory infection at first and treated him with antibiotics for 14 days with only some improvement. That is why I thought I would try worming for gape worms next. I just hope no damage has been done. Thanks

Have you tried using a cotton swap carefully on his throat, so see if you snag any actual gapeworms? Put Gapeworms in the search box and I'm sure it will pop up with more info than anyone has a right to know.
