Garden Coop expenses (and ? about coop expenses in general)

Hi from Mountlake Terrace. We designed our own and it cost $300 to build with no reused items. I went 2x3s to keep weight down and my brother went 2x4s since he reused a ton. His cost less but was a pain to move. Check out my blog for details. Sorry I don't know about that design but check out CList and Freecycle for repurposed items. Let me know how I can help by commenting on my blog. Been there and done that and all. Good luck and welcome!

Besy way to save money is to NOT have your engineer friend who owes you $$ do it. He offered labor and designing, but he litterly built it to earthquake standards. By the time he was done "fixing" the sketches i'd given him, it was too tall and too heavy for me to move, negating the whole tractor concept.

Moral or the story, don't engineer yourself into a corner.

Don't forget about the cull bin at home depot. Some folks get really great wood for pennies on the dollar. Also, check out Craigslist where folks will often have a pile of pressure treated lumber or the like leftover that they want to sell. Someone on our local CL was just selling a new roll of hardware cloth 4'x50' for $20. Darn it if I wasn't just a tad too late on that one.

No they do not make that size but you can buy 12'2x4's and have them cut them in half there fits in car/truck better for trip home or just take the wood home and cut it there. We did this it saves money and does not wast wood I think it's a Win Win

My husband also took the left over 2x4's and cut them down the middle to make them thinner for the door frame. It's amazing what you can do with the left over wood when you have a wife (me) that says " use everything you got then we can talk" LOL.
