Gardening growth question?

So... have any of you wondered... about your vegetable plants...

Are they growing mostly during the day? Or at night? And if its either... is it all growth in only either or, or is it some being done at night?

I've often wondered this. And is it different for some types of plants? (I'm mostly wondering about it, regarding garden vegetable plants.)
