Hi, My hens have giant crops that I think are full of gas. I fed them coleslaw and old yogurt with fruit in it that I think fermented today and now their crops are full of gas. They were fine before, no impacted crop, and all of them have the large crops. Can hens pass gas? Do you think they will be okay?
Thanks,
Lu

Do they have grit to help their gizzards work? Yogurt doesn’t get old that fast. Was the slaw or fruit spoiled? You could massage their crops some. Recheck crops in the morning. I would stick to their usual chicken feed.

What if their crops are still big in the morning. I think maybe the fruit in the yogurt fermented? I will be more careful with what I feed them. And they have grit.

It is best to only give them plain yogurt, if any. Just make sure they have plenty of clean water and are having droppings. Recheck the crops today and tomorrow at daylight before they eat or drink. After not eating or drinking overnight for 8-10 hours, the crop should feel empty. If they are not recheck them tomorrow. Do you have probiotics, or does you feed have probiotics listed on the label?
