I am a teacher. So when I return back to work I am worried about gathering my eggs. I noticed that my chickens are laying their eggs anywhere between 10 am and 1:pm. Sometimes even past 2. I go out and check them every morning before I go to work, but is it OK to leave the eggs all day until I get home. Sometimes I don't get home until 6. I live in Texas so it will still be pretty hot in Aug and Sept.

Well its hot here-- 100's all weekend-- and when I go to work I leave for 2 or 3 days and get all the eggs when I come home.... DH is home and does a cursory job of egg collecting, but I usually will have 8 or 9 waiting for me (outa 8 laying hens) when I get home--

My nest boxes are in the coop and a little cooler than the outside temps, we have been eating the eggs all summer no problems-- even the 16 we found in the bushes last week passed the float test and were consumed no problem....
So that is my experience, hope it helps!

Thanks so much. That helps a lot. Now being new to all of this .... What is a float test???
