I traded a couple extra ducks for a breeding pair of buff silkies. The lady says they're about a year old and in moult. So does this mean the infamous "second moult" that sometimes finishes their egg laying or will they still lay eggs for me? They're kinda scruffy looking right now but it doesn't look like mites or any other problems that I can see.

I've been bitten by the "silkie virus", too, although I don't have any silkie hens I did get 2 roosters from Craigslist last year. When I do get some I would like to get some of the buff silkies.

Sometimes it's the conditions that they were living in that causes them to look scruffy.

I thought they were always scruffy looking.
