I have 2 geese they are still young not sure on the age or type though. We were told they were 1 male and 1 female.
The one we think is female is very friendly she comes running up like a dog for a pat and won't settle to I pat her. the other is a bit timmed but can hand feed both. They are in with our chickens and are very protective of the white chickens but attack the black ones. also as we have a couple of roosters in a feced off area when the main rooster crows the male goose tries to attack it and the other day cut himself on the wire a little.
Is this normal can we stop them from attacking the other chooks?

In one of our fowl houses we have it divided, muscovies one side and geese on the other. They share a door to the pasture, but each have their own bedding and pen areas. The geese try to fight the male muscovies through the pen fence all the time. They absolutely hate them. However, once they go through the door to the pasture, they leave them alone. They do not fight at the shared door, only through the penned area. The geese will not let any of the muscovies into their area and do not go into the muscovy area. It's sorta odd really.

These geese are my "thugs" and they were put back there because they picked on our LGDs and the other fowl that we keep closer to the house. I was unable to make them stop. I locked them into the pasture fowl house for two weeks and they saw the muscovies going in and out but could only interact with them through the fence. When I finally let them range again, they had better manners. Occasionally they make their way up to the front of the property, but they don't pick on anyone up there anymore.

Geese are funny birds. Once they decide they don't like something, that is it! They only way to stop their aggression is to show them that you are bigger and meaner than they are (easy for us, but a pretty tough job for a chicken!) I would just separate them if possible.

I so agree Garlic!! I had NO problem eating either one of our geese and am thinking about raising some more up for the freezer! I want something pretty meaty though.

I found the exact opposite to be true. Last winter I processed a thug gander, and I just did the same yesterday. I did not find it easy to do either time. In fact I cried like a baby even though we had already processed all the chickens both times.

I would say, once you get to really know geese, you have a harder time eating them.
