This wild duck hen took up residence here some time ago, mateless. She sort of hung out with our African geese and when she hatched her ducklings, the geese have been helping her raise them. They proudly swim behind or around the ducklings when they are out on the water. When the momma duck wants some 'me time', the geese stand on the island with the ducklings, surrounding them, and hiss and chase away the wild geese or other ducks that come near. One more reason to love birds!
