Can you share with me your winter housing for geese and ducks? I'm concerned about frostbite on my flippers. I've heard to avoid this they must have a dry place to stand which is nearly impossible between their mess and small water bowl. Does anyone have elevated platforms for them to stand on?
My setup is a wire pen enclosed on three sides with wood. The floor is rubber, the pen is roofed. There is an insulated crate filled with straw, which the ducks love to snuggle into. But the geese prefer to stand one-legged on the floor and I worry about it being damp. We have relatively mild winters (no snow) but will have a few weeks with nights in the teens. I don't want to use a heat lamp unless I have to. Should I put some type of bedding on the rubber floor?
I'm used to chickens and turkeys but this will be my first winter with flippers. Thank you!
