hi so ive gathered two batches of our 4 gooses eggs for the incubator but would love for them to hatch their own brood too. they share 2 separate nests and there are 6 eggs in one and 5 in the other nest. they guard it and sort of tend to it a little bit but show no sign of sitting. hw do i get them to sit? are they just not broody? the eggs should b about 5 days old now.

Unfortunately need to be broody guessing they defo fertilised u cant make them.broody either im afraid be great if we could id candle them see if they formed etc then incubate them to be honest xx

Oh that is unfortunate. We already have two batches in one incubator don't think I could fit these. So some geese just don't go broody then? There are two Toulouse and two chinese females. I would think one of them should sit!

My goose didn't go broody until late June/early July. One year, I left 14 fake eggs in her nest early May to coax her into going broody earlier, and she did go broody a couple of weeks earlier than usual. Give them time - there's still a lot of the season left.

If they're still laying in the nest try this. Mark six of the older eggs. After they've laid some more eggs "steal" the six eggs when they're away from the nest. That got my Toulouse much more interested in staying close to the nest to guard it and as a result sitting on the nest.

I discover this when they weren't sitting and I gave six eggs to a neighbor who wanted to try hatching them. Suddenly everyone was interested in those eggs:).
