Hello,

This is my first time raising chicks. I have always started with pullets. I was told that I have Olive Eggers, Blue Marans, Ameraucanas, and Blue Laced Red Wyandottes.

What kind of chicks are these? Can you tell the gender yet?

Below I have two chicks photographed, one has feathered feet, one doesn't. I have six chicks like this. Some have feathered feet, some do not. Are feathered feet ever a hint as to the gender of the chick?

Thank you so much for your help,
Emily

The feather-legged one is probably the marans. The clean-legged one is probably Ameraucana or Olive Egger.

I think it's a little early to tell gender. I'm tempted to call the Marans a cockerel--but I've only gotten Marans as POL pullets, so I don't know how they progress.

i dont see any of those breeds you listed in those pics (maybe olive eggers maybe) those chicks all look mixed. were did you get them?

no feathered feet dont tell gender at all several breeds have feathered legs

Is it not possible that the top chick is a Blue Splash Marans? ETA: I've only had BCM & FBCM so I don't know what the blue and blue splash look like as youngsters.

I got them from a local breeder.

I have six that look like this.

What do you think they look like?

Thanks for your help!

If the breeder was breeding Blue Marans over Blue Marans, I believe some of the chicks could be Splash. Do some Google Image Searches and some BYC searches for "blue splash marans." If you look at Meyer Hatchery, they even have a disclaimer for the Blue Splash Marans that the blue doesn't breed true and you might end up with black, blue or blue splash.
