I feel pretty good most of the time that all 5 of my girls really ARE girls, but I would feel so so great to get some more experienced eyes to give their thoughts.

Above is Stella. She's about 4 weeks old. I think she's a pullet. She has the head spot, the black leg wash, the darker barring, as well as a smallish, very light, non-pink/non-red comb. Am I missing anything?

This is Goldie, a 4 week old Buff Orpington. She seems a little trickier. Her comb is small and has no pink/red. Her legs are skinny. She seems to stay in a more hen-like stance most of the time and her tail development seems more in line with a pullet. What is the consensus here?

This is Juliet, a 4 week old Barred Rock. Again, the leg wash, head spot, darker barring and light comb with no red/pink so far. Also she has the more hen-like stance all the time. Am I barking up the right tree?

Ok, this one is Lucy and she is a LOT harder to me. (Her feathers are a little darker in real life, but the sun lightened them for the image.) Her pea comb has only one row developing and is VERY small and very light with no pink or red. She is 4 weeks old. Her legs are skinny and her stance is usually more hen-like. But that is all I have to go on. Anything else I can look for?

And Carmelina is trickier, so I am not sure. She is a runt. She's the same age as the others, but about half the size. She has almost NO comb at all. The 2 little bumps that have developed so far as pale with no color. Her legs are tiny sticks. (She is dyed a bit, because she got injured and we put on the Pick No More to keep her safe.) Her tail seems pretty long, considering how slow the rest of her feathers are growing...but otherwise, I am not sure, since she is still very chick-like.

Thank you if you've made it this far!!

Adorable little chicks!! I can't speak about the rest of the chicks but I believe your Buff Orpington is a pullet. My cockerels, by that age, have larger combs. Sorry I can't say anything about the rest, except they're so cute! :)

They all look like pullets right now. Maybe in a couple weeks you can post more pictures. :)

Thank you so much! I'll be back in a few weeks. I appreciate the opinions. (It's awfully hard to be patient when we are falling so in love with these babies, but can't keep a too.)

Thank you chickenlver2013. I think they look girly too. They are much more black than white. And their combs have no color at all. Dark leg washing and they have a very distinct white spot on their head from the earliest days. They also have really pullet-like posture. They are just the sweetest little babies. We love them.

Another tip males are white with black barring and females are black with white barring.
