I have three african chinese mix geese around a year old. Since early spring I had one who laid around thirty eggs without setting. I discarded those.another who laid a few-both without any serious attempt ot set. The gander? mostly wandered around or sat in the shade nearby.
The other day I discovered one who had been sitting off and on in the garden was trying to hatch a plastic coffee cup and seened quite relieved when I removed it. "SHE?" then moved into a stall sharing a nest with a goose who is seriously sitting on a clutch. These two both are dead serious now about setting.
However since then I have found what I thought to be my gander making nesting moves on the empty coffee cup nest. Before I had two nesters and one committed towandering around nearby.
I did see mating this spring among these three. Do I have three female "alternative lifestylers" or do males occassionally hunker down on a nest. I thought I had twe geese and a gander. We are all apparently confused.
