At the risk of asking a silly 1st timer question... Is there a magical age when I should be able to tell the gender of my chicks? I have 13 various breeds all around 8-9 weeks and only 1 was purchased as a "straight run" now I know this is not a guarantee for hens... And honestly I don't care (as long as more than 1 roo won't be too much for my flock, time will tell) but I'm too excited and can't wait to find out!! Several seem to be developing red combs, waddles... None seem very aggressive... Too many variable for me to figure out! (Haha)

If you will post pics, you will no doubt get some good answers. There isn't a magical age, but at that age i imagine people will be able to tell pretty well, for most breeds.

These are the "most developed" of my flock

Second that, nothing screaming 'roo' though I'd watch that last black chook. Pose and expression could indicate male.

If you raise them naturally with just grain, natural proteins, garlic and kelp, you'll see in generations to come which are male by the end of their first week or even at hatching. They are just so much better with kelp in their diets. Have never seen anything come close.
