I HAD some Americana I butchered the last rooster this spring while snow was still on the ground. Its July, I have nothing but Blue Orpingtons. The chicks I have had hatch are turning up Americana, and some are rumpless, 2 are rumpless, 4 with whiskers. They are actually better type then the pure breds I got rid of. I have no idea how in the world Im ending up wtih these birds with the last of the americana were gone in March, can a hen retain sperm 3 months? and are the Americana genes so strong that the offspring of a cross bred would still be rumpless? and look very much pure? Whats going on?
