Hello all! I've been following this site for a couple of years, since I moved out here from California to take care of my momma. But, I just officially joined, so, "Hello!!!!"
When I moved in, she had 5 black Australorps, an 8 year old Rhode Island Red, a random gray girl and an Easter Egger that she literally rescued from an Ingles parking lot. Once I met her flock, I really got into "all things chicken" and have since added "Purty" hens to her flock: a New Hampshire (profile pic), a Copper Marans, and a Cinnamon queen bought at the swap meet until I did more research and found local breeders (woo-hoo!). Last year I added a Silver Laced Wyandotte, a true Ameraucana, and a Speckled Sussex.
This year, the New Hampshire went broody, so I ordered a set of fertilized eggs (we aren't zoned for roosters). Hatched 9 out of 13, on Easter, of all days! The eggs were marked with the breeds, and we ended up with 2 Wheaten Marans, a Birchen Marans, a Blue Ameraucana, and 5 mutts (marans/ameraucana crosses = olive eggers).
Now we have a happy bunch of pretty birds, with about 4-5 roosters (not sure yet - anyone want to help sex them??) to get rid of! One of the cross mixes is as sweet as a dog and comes when called - sad to get rid of him! But I know to put him on the buy-sell forum, don't worry!
Anyways, thank you for being a great group of people. I have learned SO much on this site!!
