German Shepherds, Goats, Chicken Runs and Electric Fences

Here is where my two does now reside. It's temporary until I can fence in a bigger area for them to forage in and be better protected by then my pyr will be a little bigger.

This is the run they are in. This pic is from last spring before I put a cover over it. I have 6 chickens using it now. I'm adding 6 more this spring. By the time they get big enough to use it, I'll be moving the goats to another area.

Everyone,

Thanks for the replies. I've enjoyed reading the different responses to what happened.

To the German Shepherd lovers,

I wasn't dissing German Shepherds. I personally love the breed. It could have been a Rot, a Lab, a Chesapeake Bay Ret, a Collie, German Shorthair, heck it could have even been a Great Pyr that was not socialized to livestock that did this. It's not the breed. It is owner who is responsible and his irresponsibility will lead to his dogs being put down if he is not more attentive to them.

I used to train and handle retrievers for AKC Hunt Tests and am a big believer in socializing dogs to the environment in which they will work and live. As much as I appreciate the suggestion to get with the owner to train the dogs not to bother the goats, I really don't want those two Shepherds coming back here. Their last visit here resulted in negative re-enforcement with the multiple shocks they got from the fence. I want that to be the last thing they associate with this area. The next time it will be a .30.30 rifle.

I've never shot a dog and hope I never have to. I won't post a picture of my wether goat after he was attacked. It's pretty gruesome. It makes even me more determined to protect them by any means.

Here he is a few days before the attack. He was quite the showman in the mornings when I would feed them. He'd dance, jump and spin just putting on a cute performance. He was a Christmas present to one of my sons. After we buried him, my son went off in the woods for about and hour and came back with a large stick in which he had carved the goat's name. He used to mark the grave.
