Now don't go siccing the PETA bunch on me, but we've found a wonderful way to "herd" our new flock members into the coop at night.
We found these large spray bottles at TSC, filled them with water and "SQUIRT!" it at the young'uns to get them to go where we want or don't want them to go.
I had been using it to ward them off the porch and away from the little chicks' feeders but last night we discovered it was a great help in getting the 2 month old pullets to go into their new housing.
They had been with their rooster counterparts until last week when we seperated them for the great rooster roundup and freezer filling day. I just hated seeing all the pullets (45) caged in the new hoop coop and all those bugs and fresh grass just going to waste! So DH let them out to roam.
Well, they tried to go back to old roosting sites (all over the big barn and milking area) and up in fir trees and walnut trees. DH was trying to round them up with a long stick but it wasn't working very well. Not even when he threw it at them!
But the water squirts were a little more controlling and farther reaching then any old rotten stick.
I think I'll go and get me a Super Water Oozzie from Walmart!

I can just picture you & DH squirt-herding your flock.....
And the neighbors watching... wondering "what???"

If they ask, just tell them you like your chicken moist
