Is there any possible way to keep chickens out of places you don't want them besides using fences?
I'm transitioning my chickens from free ranging in a back yard to completely free ranging around the property. Their little coop is close to the house for now, and as soon as they're turned out, they make their way under the carport. After all, it is just a big chicken shelter.
There's plenty of places (even safer-looking places) for them to use as shelter from scary things, but they insist on the carport. We actually think that they've been following our voices when we are out of sight. We do sit with them in the areas that we want them to be, and it helps, but one chicken always makes a run for it, and suddenly they're headed back under the carport. We don't want chicken poop under the carport, and also we have sprayed stuff for fleas under there that they probably don't need to be eating when they peck the dirt.
