Newbie here. We have 12 new pullets. 3 Rhode Island Reds, 4 Silver laced wydonettes and 5 Buff Orpingtons. All the birds go into the loft area at night except for the Buffs. We have to manually put them in at night. We brought them all home last Monday, the 17th. The Buffs went in the first 2 nights--since then they haven't. Any suggestions? TIA

Could be they are on the bottom of the pecking order. Have you observed their roost time activities? How large is your coop? Roosts length? A picture would help.

Could be they aren't as comfortable yet in your coop. How old are they?

My enclosed coop area is 3' by 6' with the roosts lengths about 4' long. They aren't setting on the roosts yet from what I can tell. I haven't observed their roost time activities other than to watch them going up into the enclosed area. Tonight, I only had to place 4 in the enclosed area so that's better. This is all new to me so any advise is greatly appreciated.

I would just keep putting them in. Eventually they should do it themselves. They are probably a bit insecure.
