I have been reading so much my head hurts. I am in the process of building my coop. It is (I think) 18 inches of the ground. a 4X5 coop with nesting boxes attached to the outside for easy access and with the run being (including underneath coop) 5X13 - they will have some free range when I get another fence or gate put up. I want a couple of bantams and some hens.

How many can I get?

thank you
T

Average is 4 sq feet a bird. So 4'x5' is 20 sq ft. So you could get 4 hens, though since a couple will be banties I'd say either 3 hens and 2 banties or 4 hens and 2 banties.

As far as the run goes I think BYC standards are 10 sq ft per bird.

Thank you all so much. A project that I thought would be super easy, has given me so much to think about before jumping into it. I'm just thankful for finding BYC!!!!!
