we are getting mid to high 80's now the weather has cooled off. But during the summer I was getting 4-7 eggs with the hot weather. But its cooled down in the mid 80's to high 80's. With the weather cooler I thought I would be getting more eggs. I love in nothern ca. I have a batch of hens that's 2 yrs & a batch that's 1yrs. I have black sexlink, New hamshire reds & rhode island reds.

The days are also getting shorter. That triggers a molting and they use so much energy and protein in growing the new feathers that laying stops. Sometimes it does not restart until after the winter solstice.

Same thing today. The answer won't change. Day length affects laying as does molting.
