my firs batch ever and its so close yet so far. we are ordering from cackle. We are getting five buff orpingtons 5 rhode island reds 5 barred rocks and 5 ameraucanas all pullets. we are getting the starter kit from cackle before we get the babies.

Are you anywhere near Green's Feed on N. Virginia Street across from the Bonanza Casino? According to another member they will give you 5 free chicks when you buy a 8# bag of chick starter this weekend. Why wait?

Here's the link about it:

All you need is a plastic bin and a brooder lamp, shavings. Nothing fancy, you'll be two months ahead on getting eggs! Plus you'll have 5 weeks to build a coop and more incentive! Just a thought......

I have chicks in my living room currently

Before my coop was done last year I had two chickens that went in a dog crate at night and free ranged my yard during the day. It certainly sped up my coop building. Raised a batch of chicks in my laundry room last year too. Ah go look... can't hurt
